Do you know the main basics of electrodes?
EARTHING MANUFACTURERS
Earthing is the first point to be designed in any electrical installation.
Sometimes earthing is given less importance than it really should be, the reason is unknown but we can assume that as it is something that is not seen it is not valued… but without any doubt it is the most important point of an installation.
For professional electrical installers, it is something that is very clear to them as well as being regulated according to the electrical installation regulations in force in all types of high, medium and low installations.
- But, what is earthing, the answer is easy, it is one more circuit in your installation by means of a cable dimensioned according to the possible leaks that can derive from the rest of the installation, generally it is a yellow/green colour (depending on the country or region).
Any installation in which equipment is connected has the possibility of insulation faults in housings or coatings causing leaks and these leaks must be channelled to a safe place, and that place is the earth. Therefore, the earth circuits must be a closed ring, which, like a water pipe, channels the possible leakage to the outside in a way that offers the least possible resistance to the passage of current to avoid that when we touch the current, it prefers to go through that little yellow-green wire instead of passing through our body.
- How does it get from our house to the ground? This is where grounding techniques take on the importance that is required, given that we must first measure the resistivity of the ground to define and calculate how many electrodes or grounding rods we should stick in the ground to leave a resistance value as close as possible to zero.

Once we have defined the quantity we should choose an electrode for earthing that is regulated by the corresponding quality standard and that complies with the parameters of length, coating and section that are really necessary, i.e. if we think that it is going to be buried in the ground and that it will be subject to corrosion, humidity and wear, we have to ensure that the manufacturer really complies with the most restrictive regulations …..
COMMON TECHNIQUES
- The most commonly used technique to take into account for the connection between spike/cable is interconnection by means of aluminothermic welding, which is the procedure most used by professionals in the sector due to its robustness over time and the characteristics it adds in terms of improved resistance.

- Another widespread technique is based on a mechanical connection, which also provides a good connection and minimises conductivity losses to a minimum, a method used professionally and non-professionally that ensures a proper connection so as not to break the circuit at any point.
